Idiot Avant is hosted by Jason Rudd.

IAQ (Infrequently asked questions):

What is the show's inspiration?   Idiot Avant is inspired by the now defunct radio show Brave New Waves, originally broadcasting M-F 12:05a to 4:00a on CBC Radio Two.

How sad does this make you?   Very. But I hope that Idiot Avant assuages both my and your sadnesses.

What do you mean by "experimental popular music"?   The "experimental" part is pretty easy to define. It's the "popular" part that doesn't make sense to people. The music I play isn't strictly avant garde, neither is it strictly experimental, nor cutting edge. So I use the term "popular" to not mean the long-form for "pop", which is a genre in and of itself. My show is essentially genre-free. I will play anything in a given show, from chamber tango to Japanese noise, and from French free jazz to Brazilian não wave punk. Hence, "popular", because the songs are all crafted by people making music for people to enjoy. And it's experimental because it's always a little left of center. Or maybe right of center. Of maybe smack dab in the center, but like a jealous prom queen, pretends it likes punk music just to get the attention of Marco, the hottest punk in high school.

What?   Never mind.

Who's your favorite bands?   Oh, you mean, who are my favorite bands?

If you say so.   The Sundays, The Dirty Projectors, Hanne Hukkelberg, LIARS, Sleater-Kinney, Deerhoof, Les Georges Léningrad, Duchess Says, Melt Banana, and I can't get enough of Salle Gaveau.

Who is Salle Gaveau?   Listen to the show and find out!
